The Character of Time

The Millesime 2012 by Christian Etienne is a cuvée of great prestige that celebrates the extraordinary harvest of that year. Produced with a skillful blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, this Champagne represents the perfect union between the strength of the "noir" and the elegance of the "blanc." Thanks to a very long aging in the Maison's cellars, the 2012 has achieved a fascinating tertiary complexity, while maintaining a vibrant mineral freshness. It is a "full-bodied" Champagne, designed for those who appreciate structured, evolved, and gastronomically-inclined sparkling wines.

Sensory Profile In the glass, it presents an intense and deep golden yellow color, with an extremely fine, slow, and aristocratic perlage. The nose is rich and layered: initial notes of dehydrated yellow fruit, candied fruit, and toasted almond give way to complex hints of chestnut honey, beeswax, and a slight note of roasting. On the palate, the entry is majestic; the texture is dense and creamy, supported by a still solid acidity that gives momentum to the sip. The finish is very long-lasting, with returns of sweet spices and a chalky mineral trail.

Philosophy and Winemaking Christian Etienne practices sustainable and environmentally respectful viticulture. The grapes for the 2012 vintage were selected from the oldest parcels of the estate. After fermentation in steel, the wine was bottled for secondary fermentation and left to rest on the lees for over 8-10 years. This very long aging is the key to its velvety texture and the perfect integration between the fruity and evolved components.

Food Pairings A Champagne for grand occasions that demands complex dishes. It is extraordinary with guinea fowl with porcini mushrooms, stewed white meats, venison with juniper berries, or oily fish such as smoked eel. Also excellent paired with very flavorful aged cheeses, such as Parmigiano Reggiano aged over 48 months or an old Comté.
