La Cofradía Tequila Añejo is the most mature and complex expression of the distillery's classic line. It is a Tequila dedicated to those seeking a meditation spirit, where time and interaction with wood have transformed the vibrant character of agave into a rich, dark, and elegant profile.
La Cofradía - Tequila Añejo (100% Agave)
La Cofradía's Tequila Añejo is the result of patient waiting. Produced exclusively with selected Blue Weber Agave from the valleys of Jalisco, it follows the traditional process of cooking in masonry ovens and double distillation. What sets it apart is the aging: the spirit rests in American oak barrels for a minimum period of 12 months, often extended up to 18 months depending on the batches.
During this time, the Tequila acquires an aromatic complexity reminiscent of great aged spirits like Cognac or Bourbon, while firmly maintaining its mineral and earthy identity. La Cofradía perfectly balances the sweet notes extracted from the wood with the authentic heart of the "Lowlands" agave.
Sensory Profile
-
Color: Intense amber with golden and coppery reflections. The consistency in the glass is oily and structured.
-
Nose: The bouquet is deep and enveloping. Primary notes of cooked agave are enriched with hints of dark chocolate, vanilla, toasted nuts, and dried fruit. A delicate smoky and spicy note reminiscent of cinnamon and tobacco can be perceived.
-
Taste: On the palate, it is rich, velvety, and full-bodied. The entry is sweet, with hints of salted caramel and honey, evolving towards a heart of black pepper, noble wood, and a slight note of candied citrus.
-
Finish: Long, warm, and very persistent. Leaves an elegant aftertaste of toasted oak and a lingering touch of vanilla.
Production Process After slow cooking in the hornos and fermentation, distillation takes place in stainless steel stills that preserve the cleanliness of the taste. Aging occurs in carefully selected oak barrels that rest inside the distillery in Tequila, benefiting from the minerality and volcanic microclimate of the area.
Serving Suggestions Being a high-end Tequila, it should be strictly enjoyed neat in a long-stemmed tasting glass (Riedel type for tequila or a spirits tulip glass) at room temperature. It is excellent as an accompaniment to a cigar or paired with dark chocolate with a high cocoa percentage.
