The Barbera d'Asti "La Luna e i Falò" 2021 by Vite Colte is a liquid tribute to Cesare Pavese's literature and the deepest roots of Monferrato. This label represents the winery's flagship project, born from a rigorous selection in the oldest and best-exposed vineyards, where Barbera achieves exemplary concentration and elegance.

Vite Colte - "La Luna e i Falò" Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG 2021

La Luna e i Falò 2021 is a Barbera d'Asti Superiore that embodies the perfect balance between the power of the grape variety and the finesse of skillful wood aging. The 2021 vintage in Piedmont was characterized by optimal climatic conditions that allowed for grapes with extraordinary polyphenol maturity. This wine stands out for its imposing yet never heavy structure, supported by the typical vibrant acidity of Barbera, which guarantees dynamic drinkability and remarkable longevity. It is a red that tastes of earth and history, capable of evolving splendidly in the bottle, transforming its youthful exuberance into an aristocratic complexity.

Sensory Profile In the glass, it presents an intense, deep ruby red, with slight violet reflections that turn to garnet with evolution. The bouquet is rich and enveloping: notes of ripe morello cherry, blackberry, and plum stand out, enriched by tertiary hints of vanilla, bitter cocoa, toasted coffee, and a subtle trace of sweet spices. On the palate, the entry is warm and full; the structure is solid, with soft and well-integrated tannins. The typical acidity of the grape variety gives freshness and persistence, closing on a long and harmonious finish with returns of black fruits and liquorice.

Winemaking and Aging The grapes are carefully selected from the vineyards of the contributing members who adhere to Vite Colte's excellence project. Fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature with maceration on the skins for about 12-15 days. This is followed by malolactic fermentation and an aging period of about 12 months in French oak barriques. This passage in small wood is fundamental to soften the harshness of the grape variety and enrich the aromatic profile without overpowering the fruit's fragrance.

Food Pairings A full-bodied wine that demands flavorful dishes. It is the ideal pairing for classic Piedmontese cuisine: agnolotti del plin with roast sauce, braised meats, game, and grilled red meats. Excellent with aged cheeses such as Castelmagno or Pecorino di Fossa. Thanks to its acidic component, it also holds up very well to dishes rich in noble fats such as black truffle or preparations based on porcini mushrooms.
