Montezovo's 2020 Amarone della Valpolicella is a wine that redefines the concept of power through the lens of contemporary elegance. Produced by the Cottini family in the hillside vineyards of Caprino Veronese, this "Cru" benefits from a unique microclimate, influenced by the cool currents of Monte Baldo and the mild breezes of Lake Garda, which give the wine a tension and aromatic definition uncommon for the type.
Montezovo - Amarone della Valpolicella Cru DOCG 2020
The 2020 Amarone Cru represents a masterful balance between the tradition of appassimento (drying process) and cutting-edge technical precision. The 2020 vintage allowed for grapes of excellent health and concentration, which after a natural resting period in drying lofts developed a deep and multifaceted aromatic profile. Unlike more opulent and heavy Amaroni, Montezovo's version stands out for its marked acidity and a mineral savoriness derived from the vineyard's calcareous soils. It is a wine of great structure, yet capable of maintaining a dynamic, vibrant, and incredibly persistent sip, proving to be a perfect ambassador for the Veronese territory.
Sensory Profile In the glass, it presents an intense and deep ruby red, with reflections verging on garnet. The bouquet is an explosion of ripe red fruit: sour cherry in spirit, dried plum, and small black forest fruits stand out. With aeration, noble tertiary notes of bitter cocoa, sweet tobacco, black pepper, and a delicate balsamic trail reminiscent of eucalyptus emerge. On the palate, the entry is warm and enveloping; the structure is imposing, but supported by silky and well-polished tannins. The finish is very long, clean, and closes with pleasant returns of sweet spices and licorice.
Vinification and Aging The Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes are manually selected and placed on small trays for natural drying, which lasts approximately 100-110 days. This is followed by pressing and slow fermentation at controlled temperatures. The wine then ages for approximately 24 months in oak barrels of various capacities, where it acquires complexity and stability. A further period of aging in the bottle harmonizes its components, making it ready for consumption but with an aging potential that easily exceeds 10-15 years.
Food Pairings A timeless classic for accompanying robust dishes: braised meats, beef stews, game (such as wild boar stew), and grilled red meats. Excellent with aged and spicy cheeses like Gorgonzola Piccante or 36-month Parmigiano Reggiano. Thanks to its elegance, it can also be enjoyed on its own, as a meditation wine at the end of a meal.
